During Anti-Bullying week I visited schools, colleges, radio stations, businesses and attended events raising awareness of bullying. I really enjoyed my time throughout anti-bullying week and it was great to see so many people throughout Cornwall supporting Stay Strong and helping to overcome bullying.
Check out what I got up to:-
AM: I was invited into the Pirate FM studio to have an interview with Neil and Tina and it was great, I spoke about what I would be getting up to this week and how far Stay Strong had come since I spoke with them.
PM: Myself and my Mentor put together teaching resource packs that we had prepared for Cornwall College to deliver across their seven sites.
AM: I visited nine of my local primary and secondary schools and delivered leaflets and links to lesson plans that Stay Strong had developed in preparation for Anti-bullying week.
PM: I spent time at Fit n Fun Crèche in Falmouth and gave advice to a little girl who was a victim of bullying.
I was invited to visit Polperro Primary School to talk to their Children about my experience of bullying and to carry out activities to help raise awareness and ultimately help prevent bullying. The first activity was where they had to write down in groups as many words, statements and types of bullying that they could and I was amazed by how much they knew and it was great to hear their own ideas on how they would help others being bullied. We then did an activity where they got to decorate a piece of bunting to show their support for Stay Strong and they answered a question on the back which was ‘How would you help overcome bullying within your school?’. They really enjoyed it as they got to use different materials such as glitter, coloured pens and pencils and different types of fabric. The bunting exercise really helped everyone to understand that everyone’s different and that’s ok! They all came up with some fabulous designs which were all very unique. The activities allowed the Children to talk amongst themselves and discuss their experiences of bullying it also allowed them to ask me questions about my own personal experiences.
AM: Throughout the year I have been working closely with Cornwall College and for anti-bullying week we had all 7 campuses delivering our Stay Strong lesson plan and using the resources we provided. I joined St Austell Campus and carried out our lesson plan in their social space ‘The Treg’. I spent lots of time talking to the students about bullying and raising awareness and thoroughly enjoyed engaging the learners in the activity.
PM: I was given the opportunity to have my own stand at the Enterprise Foundation launch, it was great to talk to adults about Stay Strong. I was able to talk to them about how I overcame bullying and what Stay Strong is doing to help others that are victims of bullying.
Anti-bullying week 2014 was a great success for Stay Strong. It was wonderful to see the amount of support from everyone I visited. I love meeting new people and sharing my story in hope that it helps others.
